libertarianism – Less Beaten in Politics

One of the things that’s happened to me in the past five or six years is a move from being a liberal/democrat to a libertarian. Quickly, we’ll address the little “l”. Using the word with a small “l” indicates an alignment to the principles, not necessarily the party. Using a large “L” indicates an alignment to the party.

So, I spent most of my life identifying as a Democrat. Why? I’m concerned about people, I want them to be treated equally regardless of race, sex, gender, etc., and I want them to be free to do what they want. For most people that generally seems to jive with the platform of Democrats.

Where that starts to fall down is in how those goals are reached. The more you try to enforce equality via government policy, the more you restrict freedom and the less we all thrive. Libertarian policies fall well in-line with Austrian Economics as well.
