Oregon Outback Route – Day 4 – Fin

This will be it, our final day. ~2,200 feet of climbing, ~5,400 feet of descent and a mild 62 miles. All the decisions from how to route the previous days left little choice with what’s left on the route. My biggest concern here is that Shaniko is really our only supply stop for the day, so if we’re not in town before the store closes on day 3 then we’ll likely want to wait for the store to open before departing. From Shaniko, it’s “downhill” to The Dalles.

I’ve also heard the wind on this leg can be brutal, so this day may not be as easy as it seems. However, if we can keep a 10mph average with stops included, we’ve only got 6 hours in the saddle for our last day. That makes it feasible even to be picked up and taken back to Bend where our vehicles will be stored and then even the 6 hours drive home if we’re up for it. This will be the wrap up of an incredible journey, but I’m sure we’ll all be ready to be home as well.
